Made me cry, and inspired, November 16, 2012
This review is from: Cruel Harvest: A Memoir (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)This book was waiting for me when I arrived home from work tonight; from the moment I opened it I could not stop reading it. I finished it at 2:00 a.m., tears flowing. The agony of the author's childhood tore at my heart as she described the suffering and hardships her family endured. That she was able to forgive her father speaks volumes about the healing power of God. It would truly take God to set aside the horrors perpetrated by that man. It also made me think about those I have trouble forgiving, and it seems a little petty considering what the author went through. She forgave what, to most, would be unforgivable. What's our excuse? In the last chapter as the author describes coming upon the scene of her family reunion (having found her long lost family), it seemed to me that is how Heaven will be. We will walk towards a crowd of our loved ones who went home before us and they will welcome us to Heaven. I started crying at that point and just kept on going well after I closed the book. This is a book I will not forget. I will be recommending it, especially to church family.
